Portola Multi-Mural Community Art Project

The Portola Neighborhood Association (PNA) seeks artists to submit proposals for a mural project along the Portola's San Bruno Corridor. The PNA Arts & Beautification Committee will work with community members to select imagery that will bring fresh ideas and aesthetics to the neighborhood’s current collection of murals.
We invite local artists to submit proposals for mural artwork that:
(a) Contain natural themes that relate to local ecology
(b) Promote local character & culture
(c) Enhance Portola’s designation as San Francisco’s Garden District.
FUNDING FOR SELECTED PROJECTS
The PNA has secured grant funding from the City and County of San Francisco for this project, and will use these funds to pay artists for materials (e.g., primer, paint, brushes, sheet coat varnish, scaffolding) and for execution of the selected mural projects. All murals will be funded at $20 per square foot for materials and the artist's time.
Estimates for materials range from $3.50 - $6.50 per square foot.
Estimated Materials Budgets:
$3.50 per sq/ft for Precita Eyes primer, Precita Eyes paint and Precita Eyes anti-graffiti coating, and brushes and supplies
$4.50 per sq/ft for scaffolding, Precita Eyes primer, Precita Eyes paint and Precita Eyes anti-graffiti coating, and brushes and supplies
$6.50 per sq/ft for scaffolding & scissor lift, Precita Eyes primer, Precita Eyes paint and Precita Eyes anti-graffiti coating, and brushes and supplies

STEP THREE: the Community Decides!
COMMUNITY MEETING SELECTION:
All proposals will be presented at a public Portola Community Meeting in July 2019 and attendees will be given an opportunity to "Like" their favorites. Entries will also be posted on the project webpage for public comment.
Depending on the number and scope of submissions, the PNA will select proposals during the initial selection process. Selection will be done by a 9-member committee of diverse Portola residents. Artists whose proposals are selected at this stage will receive a $150 prize. Community members willing to serve on this committee should contact us at email@example.com or (415) 347-5828.
