The PNA has been working in partnership with the City and the property owner to revitalize this vacant neighborhood anchor. It has been nearly over thirty years since The Avenue operated as a theater, and to begin the process of revitalizing the building we have undertaken a project to refresh the facade. In the coming months the Avenue theater will receive a new paint job, a bright new marquee, and dazzling new neon.
We will soon undertake a crowdfunding campaign that will give residents and merchants the opportunity to see their name up in lights and provide some extra bells and whistles for the neon sign. We are also working with a number of potential vendors to find a tenant for the Johnson's BBQ space, which has been vacant since 2009. Furthermore, we are continually looking for someone who can utilize the entire theater and re-open the doors of this neighborhood treasure.
Below is a look of what the completed paint job will be like, and we'll soon have a beautiful rendering for the neon sign. If you'd like to stay up to date with this project, sign up for our newsletter!
